John Francis Queeny by Snic Barnes
John Francis Queeny by Snic Barnes
"John Francis Queeny" arrived at Illuzion Glass Galleries when Snic Barnes and Doshworld had their "Day Of The Dead" First Friday Party. Since it arrived, it has been one of the most talked-about pieces in the gallery. Queeny's hat removes to expose the mouthpiece and the two-holed diffy fixed down-stem gives this piece a great rip. Snic crushed this one.
While many of the artists in this industry picked up glassblowing and have freelanced their way, Snic comes from a classically trained school. Picking up glassblowing while attending The Cranfield School in Philadelphia, he found a love of the medium and helped establish a new glass studio at the school for future students. He discovered electroplating while at The Appalachian Center for Crafts in Tennessee, this is where he would introduce us to his unique mixed media style of creating pipes. Taking two years away from creating glass, he moved to Montana and attended the Past Skills Wilderness School, during this break is where he learned he couldn't leave creating new work behind. He moved back to Philadelphia and has continued to push the limits of his unique style ever since.
